Ink, pages, and XP

Ink is Iron’s ink. Codex does not add its own bottles — it reads irons_spellbooks:common_ink through legendary_ink.

Matching rarity

Each next tier wants one ink of the rarity that Iron’s assigns to that spell level, plus XP. Common ink will not unlock a legendary rank. The ink row under the Codex is the filter: select a rarity and + buttons that need a different rarity go dull.

Craft path

Arcane Anvil

Paper + ink → Empty Codex Page attuned to that ink. Tooltip: “Arcane Anvil: paper + ink -> Empty Codex Page”.

Scroll Forge

Hold a school focus in one hand and the Empty Codex Page in the other. Right-click the Scroll Forge. Pays 10 levels of XP, eats the focus and the blank, gives a Codex Page for a random undiscovered spell in that school.

If imprint fails:

“Need 10 levels worth of XP…” — earn more XP first
“No spells in this school match … ink” — use a higher rarity blank
“You already know every spell this … Empty Codex can imprint” — raise blank rarity or pick another school
“That school is blocked on this server” — school is in school_blacklist.json

XP costs (defaults)

Tier I is free on discover. Higher tiers:

Default formula: 20 + 10 × tier levels-worth from level 0
Override per school: config/specs_irons_spellbooks/school_unlock_costs.json
Override per spell: spell_unlock_costs.json (wins over school)
Focus discount: 25% off XP only

Recycle

Finished Codex Pages you do not need go in an Alchemist Cauldron for ink. Better than letting duplicates sit in a chest.
